Product Description

Blast gate damper 63mm Diameter with galvanised steel blade

Blast gate dampers are designed to be used in dust & fume extraction systems where they can shut off branches within a system, maximizing efficiency. They are simple to add to an existing system or can be incorporated into the system during design. The dampers can also be used in a wide range of other applications.

Construction:
The damper bodies are die cast aluminium alloy and the blades are zinc plated steel.
Stainless steel blades are also available.

FAQ

What is a blast gate damper?

Blast gate dampers are an essential component of most dust or waste extraction systems, also wood waste extraction systems. Blast gate dampers are the preferred dampers on a lot of extraction systems due to their durability, robust construction, ease of installation and relatively low cost. Blast gate dampers are designed to be installed into spiral ducting or our express duct clipped ducting, they can be used to balance the air flow within different sections of a duct work system or to close off branches when not in use. These dampers can be manual or automatic (pneumatic), using a lever or thumb screw to adjust the airflow.

What are the dampers constructed of?

The main part is constructed from die cast aluminium alloy and the blades are made from zintec steel, we can supply 316 grade stainless steel blades to fit the blast gate damper if required making these highly resistant to corrosion or abrasive products. The body of the damper up until 355 diameter are die cast aluminium alloy and 400 diameter to 560 diameter is galvanised steel and the blades are zinc plated steel.

What applications are blast gate dampers typically used in?

Blast gate dampers are commonly found in systems that remove dust, wood waste, fumes, and other harmful airborne contaminants from industrial environments.  They are commonly used in industrial extraction systems, agricultural machinery, and other applications involving dust, fumes, and wood waste.

Are blast gate dampers airtight when closed?

Blast gate dampers are designed to effectively seal off airflow when closed, though they may not achieve a completely airtight seal. They are mainly used to block off sections of ductwork in dust extraction systems, on either or systems, or to divert air from one section of the ductwork system to the other, when the machine or machines require extraction then you simply open the blast gate damper to these machines and close off the dampers on the machines not in use.

How do you install a blast gate damper?

To install a blast gate damper in ductwork, you'll need to either cut a slot in the existing duct or use a pre-cut adapter. The process involves disassembling the damper, making the cut (or attaching the adapter), and then reassembling the damper around the duct. Our blast gate damper spiral and flex adapters are a small section of ducting with a pre cut slot that allows you to install these within your ducting system and then clamp the blast gate damper around these, they have a male end spigot fitted on both ends to enable them to fit inside spiral ducting or to enable flexible ducting to fit over them. For our express duct clipped ducting they simply clip to duct using a quick release clip. Please see our How to Video which demonstrates this.
